BEGINNERS GUIDE TO THE PERFECT SMOOTHIES
WHAT IS A SMOOTHIE?
Simply put,
A smoothie is a drink made from pureed fruits, vegetables and a liquid base with a fairly thick consistency- but we like to think of smoothies as pretty much anything that can be ground down and added to a liquid base (such as water, milk, yogurt or juice) .
The possibilities are endless- fun, healthy & delicious!
Origin & History
For centuries, many cultures around the world have been making their own renditions of a smoothie. South Americans have long used pureed fruit juices to create tropical fruit slushes. Indians have used yogurt, spices and fruit to create lassi. These concoctions have also been a part of a healthy diet in the Mediterranean and included veggies that grew in those regions.
Early concepts of the American version of smoothies were brought about by the invention of the electric blender in the late 30's. However, smoothies remained an obscure concept in the United States until the natural food craze of the '60s and '70s when health food stores around the country sold blended fruit drinks.
Fast-forward to today and...
Smoothies have evolved into so much more than just a beverage- they are being used as dietary supplements and meal replacements and served in many different ways- smoothie bowls, overnight oats etc.
Also, not only do they include fruits and vegetables- but everything from seeds, grasses, seaweeds or leaves.
Today, smoothies of every flavor and variety can be found in the refridgerated sections of your local grocery stores, at a smoothie franchise location and even online.
Despite their presence, there are still issues with these bottled or made to order smoothies on the market. The cost of shipping around heat-sensitive bottled drinks are evident in their high prices and there is still a lack of transparency into what goes into smoothies that are made-to-order.
Taking matters into your own hands
THE PERFECT SMOOTHIE
1. LIQUID
This is what helps your other ingredients mix properly! Choose from below:
Almond Milk, Oat Milk, Water, Coconut water, Soy milk, Rice milk, Natural Juice, even Tea!
2. FRUIT
Fruits add the perfect touch of sweetness, fiber, nutrients & other good stuff! Berries tend to be lower in sugar, so choose accordingly.
Banana, strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, blackberry, mango, apple, orange, clementine, pineapple
3. VEGGIES
Everyone can benefit from an extra serving of veggies. Not a veggie lover? Not to worry, our green or golden blends got you covered!
Spinach, kale, brocolli, carrots, cucumber, tomatoes, lettuce, celery. Make sure these are steamed or cooked first: caulifower and red beet.
4. SMOOV BLEND
A teaspoon or two of:

People always ask us how to get smoothies thick & creamy. These are the keys to do so:
1. Use frozen fruits. Frozen berries, frozen spinach. For bananas, we love buying a bunch, waiting for them to ripen, then peel, slice and store them in the freezer. The more ripe the banana, the sweeter.
2. Instead of adding 1 cup of liquid, try adding half a cup or even just a dash of liquid. Keep in mind, you will need a fairly strong blender for this.
3. Adding a teaspoon or two of our blends also helps thicken the smoothie!
We absolutely love our thick smoovies! We top them off with more good stuff and devour them with a spoon. They remind us of ice cream or gelato and are a must for those warm summer days.
OTHER WAYS TO SMOOV
Ready to get smoovin? The following are our favorite ways to use our blends. But most importantly- don't forget to get creative and serve how you like. After all... eating healthy should make you feel good.
Shake
INSTANT NUTRITION ON-THE-GO
STEP 1
Add 1-2 tsp of our blends to water, milk, juice
STEP 2
Shake for about 10 seconds
STEP 3
Enjoy! or store in fridge for later or add ice to-go
BLEND
INTO SMOOTHIE FOR EXTRA FLAVOUR & NUTRIENTS
STEP 1
Add fresh fruit, vegetables, ice and 1-2 tsp of our blends
STEP 2
Blend for about 1 minute
STEP 3
Pour into cup and enjoy!
MIX
into yogurt or overnight oats

Add yogurt in a bowl and 1 tbsp of our blends
